At a time when the faces of young black girls are seen flashed across the news for going missing, now more than ever, resources to learn safety and interpersonal skills are crucial. There are a growing number of organizations teaching girls everything from safety to interpersonal skills. We polled our Instagram audience for some of their favorite organizations that empower women of color.
Camp Erin is the largest national bereavement program for youth grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Children and teens ages attend a transformational weekend camp that combines traditional, fun camp activities with grief education and emotional support, free of charge for all families. Led by grief professionals and trained volunteers, Camp Erin provides a unique opportunity for youth to increase levels of hope, enhance self-esteem, and especially to learn that they are not alone.
Camp Adahi is an all-inclusive, coeducational youth development organization helping young people learn to become better stewards of their communities, their world, and themselves. Camp Adahi serves nearly three-quarters of a million young people annually with community-based experiential learning programs that are socially responsible and environmentally focused. Camp Adahi is one of America's oldest national youth development organizations with programs that include youth leadership, self-reliance, after school groups, camping and environmental education and childcare.

Girls Rock Santa Barbara empowers girls and women through music education, creative expression, and performance ; promoting an environment that fosters self-confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Our vision is to provide a safe, diverse and inclusive space to girls through music and arts education, mentorship, and community building. We strive to help shift girl culture to one where girls collaborate and support each other.
The field encompasses everything from developers creating the next new app to forensic scientists cracking major criminals. While many parents might be aware of the gender gap in places like Silicon Valley, STEM jobs spread far and wide across the job market. As they continue to grow, women are getting left behind.
Our Muse Summer Camps offer a fun summer camp setting that empowers and encourages girls to find their voices, move their bodies, and make a difference in themselves as well as the world around them. In Central Oregon we are surrounded by the beauty and inspiration of nature. Through movement, games, teamwork and writing, we will get grounded in ourselves so that we can aspire to do great things!
